Congratulations on your new song “We get the party started feat B.A.”! Can you tell us about the inspiration behind this track and what led you to create it?
The song originally started as an experiment. I wanted to see if I could sing a complete song in English. I ended up really enjoying the process, it was weird but exciting. We actually didn’t have any plans to release the song, however when my producer Eric Parker played the song for his team, they felt it had the chance to move people in a positive, fun way. I’m so happy I get to bring my supporters positivity through my first song ever!
How did the collaboration for “We Get the Party Started feat” come about? What was it like working with the featured artist?
This is actually surreal for me. It’s like a dream! Just a year ago, I was an ordinary girl playing the piano for my church choir. My mom likes to take videos of me playing piano, singing, and dancing, and upload it on my social media for our family and friends to see. Luck had it that Eric stumbled upon one of the videos and ended up really liking it. The rest just fell in place after that. To record with a Grammy nominated artist for my first ever song is a dream come true. B.A. has been really nice and fun to work with. He even gave me pointers on things to do to help with my nervousness in the studio. They made me feel more confident to do my best.
Your music often has a unique blend of genres. How would you describe the musical style and sound of this new song?
I rely on the expertise and ears of my production team to create beautiful songs. Sometimes the sound or genre is new to me, however, if the song feels good and makes me want to dance or hum along when not in the studio then I tell the team I love it. From what I understand the song is a blend of positive music and vibes from the early 90’s and some influence from the early 2000s. The goal was to make people want to dance and have a nostalgic feeling when you hear it. Almost all the instruments you hear were played live to give it what my producers call “pocket”
Can you share with us some of the key messages or themes that you aimed to convey through the lyrics of “We get the party started”?
“We get the party started” is like a “little party” at the end of the day. Today’s busy life brings a lot of pressure and stress. We all have pressure, adults, children, men or women. But instead of constantly thinking about it negatively, why don’t we get up, call some friends over and party out. Relaxation to balance life is something that everyone needs, right?
Could you provide some insight into the production and arrangement of the song? Are there any specific instruments or production techniques that were used to create the desired sound?
Producer Eric Parker wrote the music on his flight from the US to Vietnam, and the lyrics were written on the taxi ride from my house to the recording studio. We recorded my vocals in a small studio in Vietnam. There, the song was slightly edited by my sister Daisy and she even sang a lot of the background parts. Eric then took the song back to the US to add all the live instruments. We worked together happily, no pressure, the atmosphere was great, like a real party. I am grateful to be working with Eric and his team. For people who don’t have a lot of experience like me, pressure can hold you back. He put me at ease and that’s how the song was born.
Your fans are eagerly awaiting your live performances. Are there any plans to include “We get the party started feat” in your upcoming shows or tours? What can your audience look forward to experiencing during your live performances?
There will definitely be live performances. My production team Pro Entertainment Solutions are already in the works to put together some innovative virtual shows where I can connect with my fans in real-time all over the world. This is my last year of high school and it’s pretty important. I gotta work really hard for exams and stuff so, this is the reason for the initial planned virtual shows. After my studies we then plan for me to travel and greet my fans and supporters in person. They can expect a very well put together show full of musical energy. I also would like to incorporate cutting edge technology into my shows where my fans can interact with me and the stage using their cell phones.
Beyond the current release, what can we expect from Cherry Nguyễn Lâm in terms of future projects or collaborations? Are there any exciting developments on the horizon that you’d like to share with us?
I’m happy to say we just finished the music video for “Party” and there is a 2nd song already 90% done. We’re also planning the 3rd song that will be a duet with another Vietnamese artist that will release in about 2 months! I have to say the second song we are completing is my favorite, so I’m looking forward to the world hearing it!
Finally, is there a special message you would like to convey to your fans and listeners who have been supporting you throughout your musical journey?
Thank you to everyone for supporting me with my first project. There is a lot of undiscovered talent in Vietnam, people that dance and sing better than me. However, people still decided to follow and support me. I know I’m still new to the music industry but this has been my childhood dream and I’m so happy it finally has a chance to come true!
